Theory of helical magnetic structures and phase transitions in MnSi and FeGe

Abstract
The long-period helical magnetic structures in MnSi and FeGe are shown to be consequences of a ferromagnetic Dzyaloshinskii instability (1964). Renormalisation group theory predicts the transition to be first order, in agreement with experiments on MnSi.Keywords
