Abstract
The dependence of 〈r2〉 on the number of links in a random flight chain is calculated for an arbitrary number of dimensions from generalizations of the treatments of James and Fixman. The results are compared with those from other approaches. The extension of the James theory to include second‐order corrections is briefly discussed. Keywords
