Abstract
The increase in weight of the thyroid gland of the rat produced by the administration of 0.1 per cent methylthiouracil (goitrogenic challenge) for periods of one, two and four weeks, has been measured. The inhibitory effect on thyroid growth of X-irradiation at a rate of 250 rads/minute up to a dose of 1,600 rads was best apparent with a goitrogenic challenge continuing for four weeks after irradiation and allowed a dose-response curve to be constructed. X-irradiation in the same dose range did not affect the iodide trapping function of the gland. Keywords
