Abstract
A multicentre pilot trial to assess the feasibility of undertaking a full-scale national trial of treatment for mild to moderate hypertension has been performed and is being continued. By February 1977 over 1800 patients had entered the trial and some have been under observation for three years. The results so far show that the definitive trial is administratively and scientifically feasible and ethically justified. Keywords
