The Biotin Requirements of Neisseria sicca

Abstract
Welton''s liquid synthetic medium failed to support the growth of N. sicca. The medium of Landy and Dicken, as modified for the cultivation of Staphylococcus aureus, and without folic acid supported abundant growth. By successive omission of supplementary growth factors it was found that biotin was essential. Hydrolyzed casein was replaced by a mixture of 19 amino acids. Omission of any one did not affect the growth. The modified Landy and Dicken medium supported better growth of N. sicca than did Welton''s medium with added biotin.
