Abstract
During the administration of Diamox to 6 normal subjects for 3 to 5 days the urinary excretion of bicarbonate increased 130-200 meq, and elimination of H ions decreased 50-200 meq. During recovery from the drug''s action the excretion of ammonium ion and titratable acid was much augmented, with a corresponding conservation of fixed cations. The significance of these findings in the use of Diamox for treatment of congestive heart failure is discussed.
