Timing of Initial Administration of Low-Molecular-Weight Heparin Prophylaxis Against Deep Vein Thrombosis in Patients Following Elective Hip Arthroplasty

Abstract
EPIDEMIOLOGIC DATA demonstrate that perioperative and postoperative venous thrombosis are common in high-risk surgical patients.1-5 In the absence of thromboprophylaxis, this disorder occurs in 40% to 60% of patients undergoing hip arthroplasty.5,6 Prophylactic regimens include warfarin and subcutaneous low-molecular-weight heparin.5,6
