Abstract
Symptoms of plant disease which include stunting, proliferation of axillary shoots, general chlorosis, and sometimes greening and proliferation of floral parts have generally been ascribed to virus infection. Such diseases, collectively known as the "yellows group", include aster yellows (Smith 1957), lucerne witches' broom (Edwards 1935), and tomato big bud (Samuel, Bald, and Eardley 1933); They are not known to be sap-transmissible, but may be transmitted by dodder (Ouscuta spP"), by grafting, or by various leafhopper vectors (Kunkel 1952; Helms 1957; Smith 1957).
