Abstract

The presence of

N^{-}

has been confirmed for the first time in electron-impact excitation of nitric oxide and of a mixture of

N_{2}

and

O_{2}

. The appearance potentials indicate

N^{-} ({}^{1}D)

, without excluding

N^{-} ({}^{1}S)

.
