Abstract
The authors describe a collaborative or action research project conducted by a college of education instructor, a high school English teacher, and two student teachers aimed at rethinking the student teaching practicum. The project had three phases: Planning, implementation, and evaluation. The work described here took place within the context of a new, graduate level, teacher preparation program: The Master of Education in Teaching offered by the College of Education at the University of Hawai'i at Manoa. The aim was to reconstruct the practicum in a way that would combine student teacher preparation with inservice opportunities for the cooperating teacher. The authors describe the project and, looking back after almost two years have elapsed, offer conclusions based on what was learned. Keywords
