Abstract
Using the experience of four groups-single parent, abused women, women returning to school, and assertive skills trainees- the paper makes the central point that feminist oriented groups create special circumstances to counteract harmful sex-role socialization. These special factors include: (1) a decrease in women's particular isolation from each other, (2) an emphasis on social and political factors in women's lives, (3) the absence of men in the group, (4) the development in women of group facilitation skills. In light of the effects of these distinctive aspects, the authors suggest that facilitators of groups with female participants consider whether their approach meets women's special needs sufficiently. Keywords
