Abstract
Despite an increasing national and local emphasis on special education for adolescents identified as seriously emotionally disturbed, little information is available on the nature of actual education programs operated for such students. This national survey sought data on key aspects of such educational offerings including some program demographics and teacher characteristics as well as program features. These aspects are summarized to provide an indication of what is being done in school programs. Implications are presented for teacher preparation and other needs related to a better understanding of programs for adolescents with serious emotional disturbance. Keywords
