Abstract
Administration of antidysrhythmic agents including procainamide, lidocaine, propranolol and quinidine prophylactically to patients with acute myocardial infarction is reported to significantly reduce the incidence of fatal ventricular fibrillation. Reduction of sudden cardiac death can be prevented only when drug plasma levels are in therapeutically effective ranges. ECG monitoring is suggested for early diagnosis of ventricular tachycardia.
