Spin and Nuclear Moments of theZn63Ground State

Abstract
The hyperfine structure of the (4s4p) P13 state of 38-min Zn63 has been determined by the optical double-resonance technique. The measurements yield a nuclear spin I=32, a dipole interaction constant A63(P13)=326.57(4) MHz, and a quadrupole interaction constant B63(P13)=34.46(3) MHz. If the hyperfine-structure anomaly and quadrupole shielding effects are neglected, the nuclear magnetic moment with diamagnetic correction is μ63=0.28156(5)μN, and the nuclear quadrupole moment Q63=+0.29(3) b. The ratio of the Zn63 and Zn67 quadrupole moments is Q63Q67=1.8347(13), independent of the quadrupole shielding correction. This work represents the first successful application of the double-resonance method to nuclei with half-lives 1 h.
