Abstract
An assay is described for the simultaneous detection of reverse transcriptase and 60–70S RNA unique to the oncogenic RNA viruses. The test involves the sedimentation analysis of the DNA synthesized in an endogenous reverse transcriptase reaction: the nascent DNA is shown to be complexed to a 60–70S-RNA template. Detection of low levels of an oncornavirus is now possible in biological fluids containing enzymatically active cell fragments or other contaminants. This assay has been applied to particles isolated from human milk/which are shown to contain both reverse transcriptase activity and 60–70S RNA.Keywords
