Abstract
The kind of housing changes made by 315 low-income elderly-headed households who relocated in urban areas between 1973 and 1974 are analyzed using data from the Survey of Low-Income and Disabled (SLIAD). Housing changes studied are changes in the number of rooms, structural deficiencies, housing expense burden, and owner-occupancy or renter status. Adjustments are found to be highly diverse; for example, a large number are moving from small to large units as well as from large to small. Multivariate analysis of the changes is performed using data on the initial year's and changes in the household's health and economic status, family composition, and support by family members not loving in the home. Keywords
