Abstract
A contemporary dilemma in nursing is the order to care in a society that refuses to value caring. The authors analyze the historical creation of this dilemma and its consequences for nursing. In addition, they explore the meaning of the concept of caring from a nursing perspective, along with the impact of technology on patients, providers, and caring. Finally, a framework and strategies for the promotion of caring within the discipline of nursing are presented. Keywords
