Abstract
Extract Perinatal mortality of lambs in New Zealand associated with Toxoplasma infection has been reported by Hartley and Marshall ( 1957 Hartley, W. J. and Marshall, S. C. 1957. N.Z. vet. J., 5: 119–119. [Taylor & Francis Online] [Google Scholar] ). Recognition of the syndrome was based on morbid anatomical and histopathological considerations, and the association with Toxoplasma infection was confirmed by isolation of the organism by mouse inoculation. Although these techniques served a useful purpose in the primary recognition of toxoplasmosis, they are not easily adaptable to studies of epidemiology. Suitable serological tests could be a useful research tool in this type of study.
