Differences in Hybrid Fry Production Between Two Strains of the Nile Tilapia

Abstract
Various Tilapia species were used for interspecific hybridization under hatchery conditions and in earthen ponds. Variation in spawning frequency of individual females in the same container was noted in most cross combinations. Large differences in success of hybridization and fry production were noted between females of two strains of T. nilotica when hybridized with either T. aurea or T. hornorum males in hatchery containers and ponds. The use of suitable broodstocks may solve the problem of low hybrid fry production previously attributed to the cross of female T. nilotica x male T. hornorum.This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
