Abstract
Measurements by Borg, Birchenall and Lai are at variance with the results recently reported by James and Leak. Our measurements of the self-diffusion of iron in body-centred cubic iron define a deviation from the Arrhenius relationship commencing at approximately 900°C. With an alloy the measurements of Borg et al. extend from 700 to 1500°C, and with this extended range it has been shown, in a previous paper, that the deviation is commensurate with the change in the elastic properties of the material, according to the theories of Zener and LeClaire. Keywords
