Abstract
3-Hydroxycyclocitral (1) is an important intermediate for the synthesis(1) of strigol (2), which is a highly potent seed germination stimulant for the root parasite witchweed and is an attractive synthetic goal for organic chemists. Sih and his coworkers synthesized 3-hydroxy-citral (1) from citral through α-cyclocitral. Lately, Brooks et al.(2) reported a new synthesis of 3-hydroxy-2, 6, 6-trimethylcyclohex-1-en-1-carboxylic acid, the oxidation product of (1). They applied a very diluted reaction medium to run the key oxidation reaction. Keywords
