Effect of α-Actinin on F-Actin

Abstract
The dynamic elastic modulus of α-actinin-F-actin complex was measured under various conditions. It increased up to a ratio of 30–40% α-actinin by weight to F-actin. The elastic modulus of a-actinin-F-actin complex decreased with increasing amplitude of oscillation during the measurements. The elastic modulus was, however, markedly increased by sonic vibration, which would disperse huge aggregates of the complex. The value of the elastic modulus was very large at low temperatures (5–10°C) and very low at 40°C, where dissociation of the complex took place. Tropomyosin decreased the dynamic elastic modulus of α-actinin-F-actin complex. Based on the present observations, a scheme for the network of the- α-actinin-F-actin complex is proposed.
