Abstract
A procedure is described for the simultaneous determination of methanol, ethanol, and isopropanol in biologic samples, using a low-cost gas chromatograph. A combination of the use of anhydrous calcium sulfate (Drierite) absorption of most of the water in the sample followed by an n-butanol extraction of the alcohols from the solid absorbent is employed. This extraction technic is efficient and affords good sensitivity while eliminating the need for hydrogen flame detection and sample-port clean-out.Keywords
