Abstract
The risk of concrement formation of the sulfa drugs in the kidneys may be reduced by the use of the "sulfa-combination" principle, wherein it is possible to administer a mixture of sulfanilamides having separate solubilities. The solubilities of sulfathiazole, sulfadiazine, sulfa-merazine and the corresponding N4-acetyl derivatives were detd. at the pH range 5.9-7.9 in different solvents saturated with the compds. separately and with their mixtures. The compds. do not affect each other''s solubility. The acid dissociation constants (pKa) and the solubility of the undissoci-ated compds. (So) were calculated. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
