Untersuchungen über Auxinoxydasen

Abstract
In an analysis of the β-indolyl-acetic acid (IAA) oxidase system of etiolated pea shoots, three different peroxidases were separated and purified several hundredfold by column chromatography. Each of these “multiple peroxidases” requires only the presence of a phenolic cofactor for IAA oxidation. Although the addition of manganous ion alone is without effect, in the presence of the phenol it increases the rate of IAA oxidation by two of the peroxidases while inhibiting the third. These results are contradictory to theories which postulate that manganese ions or enzymic activities additional to that of peroxidase are essential for the function of an IAA oxidase.
