Abstract
The right tibias of 66 rabbits were injected with a suspension of Staphylococcus aureus and sodium morrhuate. After 4 wk, 43 rabbits developed osteomyelitis and were started on a course of antibiotics. During treatment, a 67Ga-scintigram was obtained every 2 wk for up to 10 wk. During the treatment weeks, 25 rabbits developed negative 67Ga-scintigrams and were killed. All 25 had negative bacteriologic cultures of the right tibia. Ten weeks after the start of treatment, the 18 rabbits with persistently positive scintigrams were killed. Of these, 11 had positive bacteriologic cultures of the tibia; 7 were negative. Thus, sequential 67Ga-scintigrams may be useful in predicting the cure of osteomyelitis during treatment. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
