Abstract
Culiseta melanura, the enzootie vector of EEE virus in eastern United States, and Culiseta inornata were collected in 2 Florida habitats and the host-blood sources of engorged individuals were determined by capillary precipitin tests. Nearly all (97–99%) C. melanura had fed on wild birds, Predominantly passerines. Only a few engorged C. inornata were collected but these had fed on mammals, mainly cattle. Results are in close agreement with the feeding habits reported for these mosquitoes in most other geographic areas. The interpretation of differing feeding patterns, with special reference to C. melanura and the abundance and behavior of birds, is discussed. Keywords
