Abstract
Using TAT slides and a neutral achievement arousal condition, 91 Susquehanna University students were tested for need to achieve (nAch). Male nAch scores were not significantly affected by achievement or affiliation arousal. In comparison, female nAch scores increased significantly (p <.001) after affiliation arousal and decreased significantly (p <.001) after achievement arousal. A positive significant (p <.01) correlation of nAch score and grade-point average was computed. Science majors were significantly (p <.1) higher in nAch score than humanities majors, and humanities majors were significantly (p <.1) higher in nAch than business majors.
