Rational Reduction in Pretransfusion Testing

Abstract
In the present situation in the health care field, in which the thrust for changing practices to improve efficiency is stronger than ever, the general laboratory manager as well as the pathologist must consider the benefits of systems compression. Recent changes in standards and regulations apply to many aspects of pretransfusion testing and indicate that a revision of laboratory procedures may be in order for the hospital blood bank or transfusion service; the authors give a detailed description of these revised procedures.
