Abstract
A typic operation for the radical cure of oblique inguinal hernia is one that places all the structures involved in the same relationship to one another as they are present in a normal person. The operations that have been hitherto produced to cure inguinal hernia fall far short of being typic. A careful analysis of failures; a painstaking research for hidden truths, and a discernment of contestable premises are ever before the surgeon who hopes for more success, new discoveries and lasting operative procedures. In the multiplicity of the new environments that have arisen and changed from time to time, herniology shows that there has been considerable developmental experimentation, and attendant thereto new suggestions have presented themselves; new ideas were born, and new truths discovered. In response to a firm conviction of having found an improvement on the older operation, independent thinking surgeons invented the different procedures we now possess.
