Abstract
H. vitiensis is described from 12 of 40 specimens of the host, from Nandi Bay. The parasites were found in heart blood smears, and the available evidence suggests their derivation from cysts located in some part of the heart, an organ very rarely infected by myxosporidians. This is only the 4th member of its genus to be recorded from fish of a purely marine habit. The sp. is disporo-blastic and shows autogamy. Its relationships with other members of the genus are discussed. Keywords
