Abstract
The overall objective of the Drug Project, University of Florida [Gainesville, Florida, USA] is to examine the feasibility of behavior modification techniques, specifically contingency contracting, as a major treatment modality for drug-dependent individuals. Beside being a useful method of managing academic and social behaviors, contingency contracting has been effective in dealing with a broad range of maladaptive behaviors. Development of the use of contingency contracting within the context of the natural environment has been the focus of this investigation for the past 3 yr. Concurrently, a treatment team approach has been developed which utilizes the services of trained volunteers in treating drug abusers. The Drug Project''s system for implementing treatment and its method of contingency contracting are described. Keywords
