Serious Arrhythmias During Labor and Delivery in Women With Heart Disease

Abstract
The sudden onset of ventricular tachycardia and complete heart-block was documented via a continuous electromagnetic tape recording of the electrocardiogram during labor, delivery, and in the immediate postpartum period in two asymptomatic women with rheumatic heart disease. Monitoring of the ECG by an oscilloscope is recommended for the detection of unexpected and potentially life-threatening arrhythmias during childbirth in patients with heart disease.
