Abstract
Dr. Newberger's review of Violence Against Children misrepresents my studies. My research methodology dismayed him, but he failed to mention that I discussed limitations of a survey of legally reported child abuse and warned explicitly against automatically extrapolating findings beyond the 13,000 children from all over the country studied in my surveys. In spite of limitations, my study samples were far more representative than small samples drawn from hospitals or welfare agencies in one locality which were used in most earlier studies of child abuse.
