Abstract
APPLICATION of tympanoplastic techniques in the treatment of congenital atresia of the external auditory canal has been most rewarding. The purpose of this report is threefold: To discuss the indications, to present the techniques, and to discuss the results and problems encountered. Problem of Congenital Atresia The development of a logical approach to the management of congenital atresia is a multifaceted problem usually involving several physicians, the parents, and the patient. The pediatrician or obstetrician who first notes this condition is faced with the problem of giving advice as to the outlook and management. He is often in a quandary as to whether he should refer the child to an otologist or a plastic surgeon. The parents, because of their own anxiety and guilt feelings, have an almost frantic desire to have something done immediately.
