Abstract
Cretinous rats were produced by feeding thyroid to the mother preceding and during pregnancy. 9 such rats were kept in the cretinous conditions, whereas 8 were returned to a more normal condition by feeding thyroid after their birth. These 2 groups together with a normal group of 10 rats were studied in a conditioned response situation using the Schlosberg conditioning technique. Evidence was obtained indicating that the cretinous condition impaired learning in 4 of the animals although the remaining 5 learned in normal time. The cretins fed thyroid after birth learned faster than either of the other groups. In the normal and treated cretins correlation between wt. and speed of learning was .96 and .87 respectively. For the untreated cretins the correlation was [long dash].04.Keywords
