Abstract
This survey explores the incidence of date rape and other forms of forced sexual behavior among college students at a large urban university. It is estimated that approximately 10% of college females surveyed had experienced some form of forced sexual encounter within the previous year. Penetration occurred in half of these cases. In addition, nearly 6% of the males surveyed admitted forcing a date to engage in some form of sexual activity within the last year. The nature of force used by the perpetrators and experienced by victims is also described. Finally, the perceptions of date rape victims and perpetrators are described with respect to this phenomenon. Keywords
