Abstract
A survey is given of reactions of organic halides with magnesium in the presence of an added substrate in a suitable solvent. In many cases this one-step synthesis is to be preferred to the commonly used two-step procedure via Grignard compounds. The applications of metals other than magnesium for this one-step synthesis are also briefly mentioned. 1. Introduction 2. Allyl and Benzyl Halides 3. Other Organic Halides 4. Miscellaneous Syntheses 5. Applications of Other Metals 5.1. Zinc 5.2. Calcium 5.3. Lithium
