Abstract
In 1 series of 68 cases of midtrimester pregnancies (12-24 wk), legal abortion was induced by 1 intra-amniotic injection of 2.5 mg 15-methyl prostaglandin[PG]F2.alpha.. Fetus was expelled in 67 cases (98.5%) after a mean time of 18.4 h. One case with duplex failed to abort (1.5%). Abortion was complete in 54% of aborted cases. In the 2nd series of 93 cases, abortion was induced by i.m. injection of 300 .mu.g 15-methyl PGF2.alpha. every 3rd h (the 1st dose was 200 .mu.g) during 30 h. Fetus was expelled in 79 cases (85%) after a mean time of 16.7 h. Failure occurred in 14 cases (15%). Abortion was complete in 57% of aborted cases. Side effects (vomiting and diarrhea) were more frequent in the i.m. series and very inconvenient to many patients. Excessive bleeding occurred more often in the intra-amniotic series. A small rupture of the cervix was noted once (primigravida) in the i.m. group. The i.m. way of administration may be a simple method of 2nd trimester pregnancy termination with small bleedings, but otherwise may be inferior to the intraamniotic route. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
