The Growth of Plaice in Laxey Bay (Isle of Man)

Abstract
Plaice from a bay in the Isle of Man were examined for comparison with farm reared fish from the same stock. The wild plaice showed wide variation in size for age; on average they reached minimum marketable size at an age of 2½ years. Weight length relationships were calculated; the equation Weight in g = 0·01065 (Length in cm)3 fits the data well. Immature and mature fish were lightest for their length just after spawning time. Feeding intensity was lowest in the cold months but peak feeding occurred before the warmest months.
