Abstract
Data on 6097 inmates of mental institutions in southern Sweden revealed an incidence of .3% individuals coming from incestuous matings prohibited by law; i.e., parent-child; brother-sister; grandparent-grandchild; half-brother-half-sister; uncle-niece; and aunt-nephew. Of the 14 incestuous births of the present study, 13 were rural, as defined by the residental community of the mother. Among 9 of the offspring of incestuous matings of the present study, subnormal or defective intelligence occurred in one or both parents. A raised frequency of such incestuous births would increase the category of individuals mentally disabled through recessive genes. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
