Abstract
In this paper sufficient conditions for the existence of sustained oscillation in a class of non-linear networks are derived. It is shown that provided the system gain is sufficiently small, the first-order describing function provides an analytically correct method. For a more restrictive class of networks a bound on the system gain for sustained oscillation is expressed directly in terms of the system parameters, and is independent of the describing function. Keywords
