Note on the characterisation of the anthocyanins and anthocyanidins by means of their colour reactions in alkaline solutions

Abstract
Examination of the reactions of antho-cyanins and anthocyanidins in a range of buffered solutions is by far the most reliable method for comparison and characterization, and is of even greater value than a study of the absorption spectrum. The contention of Fear and Nierenstein that the color reactions of these compounds (which are indicators) should be examined in solutions of definite [rho]H is therefore undoubtedly correct.
