Abstract
Two cases of actinic elastosis with skin manifestations closely resembling pseudoxanthoma elasticum are reported. This investigation also includes a comparative histo-chemical and various enzyme digestion studies of actinic elastosis and pseudoxanthoma elasticum. The results confirm the striking similarity of the altered material in both disorders. The only significant difference refers to digestion studies with bacterial elastase. This enzyme completely digests the amorphous elastic staining material in actinic elastosis while it partially digests the accumulated fibers noted in pseudoxanthoma elasticum. Methanolization partially removed the affinity of the altered material for elastic stain in both disorders, thus, suggesting that aside from elastic tissue some other substance may also be present. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
