Manpower Considerations

WORKFORCE IS actually a better term than manpower, and I would suggest that we evaluate the physician workforce within the context of many changes that are occurring in our society. I have read a book recently that says the more specialized knowledges are, the more effective they will be. The best radiologists are not the ones that know the most about medicine, they are the specialists that know how to obtain the best images of the body's inside. We surely overdo specialization these days, worst of all in academia, but the cure is not to try to give specialists a liberal education and to make generalists out of them. This concept is from Peter Drucker's book, The Postcapitalist Society, which I commend to you.
