Abstract
The need for a rapid method of analyzing all of the reactants and products of the reduction of nitric oxide by hydrogen and ammonia was realized during heterogeneous catalytic reaction studies in a transient reactor. A two-column gas chromatographic system using a thermal conductivity detector was developed to analyze for H2, N2, O2, NO, NH3 and N2O from a single sample without using temperature programming. Severe tailing of the NH3 peak restricted quantitative analysis of NH3 to above 2500 ppm with the switching procedures employed. Analysis of H2O was not possible. Total analysis time for the six-component system was only eleven minutes. Possible analysis of CO and CO2 with this system is also discussed. Keywords
