Abstract
Juvenile hatchery-reared shad were successfully tagged by holding them in Ringer''s soln., after tagging, until the incisions were healed. Of 1,078 fish released, only 3 tagged fish have been reported. These 3 were recaptured within a radius of 10 miles from their point of release, 3, 4, and 5 years after tagging. The fact that these returns were identified in the vicinity of the place at which the young shad were released and that no returns were discovered to other areas in the complex system of waterways in which the hatchery is located is regarded as evidence that shad do return specifically to the stream of their nativity. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
