Abstract
LIMITED information is available regarding the influence of hemodialysis on pregnancy. Hemodialysis has been used for the treatment of post-partum azotemia due to a variety of causes.1-5Only two reports are available of hemodialysis during pregnancy.6-7 An opportunity was afforded to observe the subsequent course of a pregnancy following hemodialysis performed for the treatment of acute glutethimide (Doriden) intoxication during the 23rd to 24th week of gestation in a 21-year-old woman. Despite the development of acute renal failure, the patient's pregnancy proceeded normally. She subsequently delivered a normal fullterm viable baby. Report of Case A 21-year-old woman was admitted to the medical service intensive care unit of the Bernalillo County-Indian Hospital on Jan 11, 1965. She had apparently ingested fifteen 0.5-gm glutethimide capsules and cut her left wrist two to three hours earlier during an episode of severe depression.
