Abstract
A description is given of high mortality rates found in four départments in the West of France, ranging from 16 to 27 per 100,000 in males; in some localized areas, the rates are over 50 per 100,000. This observation is consistent with the alcoholic origin hypothesis and with previous data obtained for the whole of FranceKeywords
