Abstract
This paper is concerned with a reservoir which receives and releases fluid flows at variable rates such that the net input rate of fluid is uniquely determined by the state of a birth-death process. We derive some structural properties which generalize and justify earlier findings for special cases of the model, and obtain explicit results for the equilibrium distribution of the content of the reservoir. Keywords
